Guru Purnima

Who is a Guru and why do we celebrate Guru Purnima?

Most people in the world are suffering in one way or the other. If you look around, largely suffering is happening due to prevailing mindsets of people that is crippled with inertia. And unfortunately they don’t even know how to get out of it and continue to stay trapped in the vicious cycle of materialistic pursuits, chasing happiness.

But nobody wants to be suffering whole life. This is where a Guru comes into the picture. It is the Guru who is an agent of illumination, dispelling the darkness or ignorance in the lives of people, so their suffering ends. Guru is not just a person, but an intelligence that when manifests brings clarity in lives. This intelligence is beyond the capabilities of intellect, unbound by the boundaries of logic. This intelligence is present everywhere, but requires a certain level of evolution to be able to acquire and assimilate it with independent will. Such capability exists in rare individuals, so masses seek this intelligence to come to them through a human form. That’s why having a Guru in life becomes important. It is when the blessings and guidance of the Guru happens, we take our second birth. Birth through parents was the first one which brought us in this world, but the second birth is even more important, as this opens the dimension of living a conscious life, a life which is in constant connection with the permanence of existence and brings and end to the sufferings arising from the impermanent. This is when all the hidden potential of human mechanism starts to flower.

We celebrate Guru Purnima to remind ourselves that there is a possibility of breaking the shackles of suffering and bow down to those who empower us in living a long lasting joyful life.
